GENERAL MEETING

ATTENDANCE: There were 38 in attendance.
Mary Jane Irwin welcomed everyone and introduced the Master Gardeners.
MASTER GARDENER:
Milka and Eileen Hughes spoke on the planting, growing, harvesting and enjoying of asparagus.
GUEST SPEAKER:
Liz Case introduced the guest speaker, Dalibor Tichak of Coboconk. He spoke on “How to Grow Cacti & Succulents” accompanied by a slide show of his greenhouses.

COMMITTEE & EVENTS REPORTS
Attendance & Door Prize:
There were 38 in attendance. The Door Prize was won by Barb Ballantyne.
Community Gardens
All gardens are doing well. The bridge is looking nice. Three Ivory Silk Lilac trees, two as memorials and one provided by District 4, will be purchased for Fall planting.
Excursions
Susan Sheehan reported that, unfortunately, the members’ Garden tour is cancelled for this year. She will try again next year.
Flower Show
A huge thank you was expressed by both Mary Jane & Margaret Giles to all the volunteers who made this year’s Flower Show a success. In the Junior Division there were 38 entries from 9 exhibitors. High Points going to Cole Hamilton and Best in Show awarded to Taryn Provenzano. In the Adult Division there were 294 entries from 32 exhibitors. High Points going to Mary Jane Irwin and Best in Show was won by Barb Ballantyne. First Time Exhibitor High Points went to Gus Janca. 127 paid entrance fee plus 17 guests from Hyland Crest and Hyland Wood attended the show. After all expenses we showed a profit of $167.08.
Library
Izabel Janca reported that 20 – 30 new additions have been received. An update will be circulated soon.
Membership
Nancy reported we now have 109 members with 2 new members tonight.
T-Shirts & Well Wishes Cards
Elinor Kernohan is circulating a new order sheet for T-Shirts and Hoodies. Society Pins are on sale for $5.00. A Sympathy card has been sent to Marilyn Burrows and a Get Well card to Susan Sheehan.
Village Green
Liz Case is setting up the Village Green Maintenance Committee. It is hoped to have I person per week caring for the Village Green. The Township is watering the Green. See Liz after the meeting or call her at 447-0151 or email at lizandnickAlive.ca

Melanie reported that the set up is complete and we are directed properly from the gardens Ontario website in to mindenhorticulturalsociety.ca
OHA, DISTRICT 4 & OTHER MEETINGS
OHA Convention
July 18 – 20 in Cornwall. Mary Jane & Rose attended. Elizabeth Carrell won First Prize for her painting. Rose won many awards for her flowers. Mary Jane stated that there was good food, good speakers and good accommodation. The 2015 Convention will be held in Ancaster July 3-5.
District 4 Fall Seminar
October 25th in Lakefield – no further information available yet
July Executive Meeting
Motions were passed at the Executive meeting as follows: a vote will be held at the AGM in November to reduce the number of Directors from 10 to 8, a free membership and a $25.00 donation to the Sanfilippo Children’s Research Foundation will be sent to Elizabeth Linton in thanks for the loan of the decorations for the flower show.
