GENERAL MEETING

ATTENDANCE: There were 33 in attendance.
Mary Jane Irwin presented a slide show on the Design Workshop facilitated by Pat Campbell on July 7th, at the Minden Legion from 10 – 2:30 pm. Nine people attended and enjoyed a delicious lunch. Samples of the Crescent and Movement designs made by the participants were on display.
MASTER GARDENER:
Pauline Plooard spoke on Edible Flowers.
GUEST SPEAKER:
A panel consisting of Master Gardeners, Pauline Plooard & Marg Chambers, and Flower Show Committee members Jessie Geall & Margaret Giles answered questions from the audience on gardening and flower show related subjects.
OPENING REMARKS:
Mary Jane directed those planning on exhibiting in the Flower Show to the Flower Show section of the Yearbook, specifically pages 11-14 re: Entry Tags and Tips of Conditioning flowers. Rose Paliwoda provided information on the various types of containers appropriate in several categories. Izabel Janca noted that there are new additions in the Library on Flower arranging.

Community Gardens
Karen, Eli Welsh, Jessie & Anne have planted the Bridge. The Village Green is in need of weeding. Thursday July 10, 9 am volunteers are needed. Please see Liz if you are able to help.
Excursions
Joan Taylor thanked Susan Sheehan for a wonderful tour of L.M. Montgomery house. A very enjoyable day. The Members Garden Tour has been postponed. Suggested dates; August 23 or the Fall./
Flower Show
Sandria Garry, Tea Room co-ordinator has 3 spots to fill, has 34 pies, needs 41. Please see Sandria to sign up in these areas. Pies can be brought in Thursday or Friday morning. Melanie Hevesi, Advertising, has Ads in the Echo, Times, & Highlander and spots on Canoe & Moose Radio stations. More flyers are available to put up around town if needed. Sandwich boards are also being put out in designated areas. Margaret Giles asked for additional planters & musical instruments to help decorate the hall. Decorating will begin on Thursday morning at 9:00 am July 24.
Membership
Nancy reported we now have 101 members and 8 Junior members. The special draw was won by Anica |Sabel
T-Shirts & Well Wishes Cards
Elinor has no T-Shirts or Hoodies left. Society pins are available for $5.00 each. Cards have been sent to Susan Keller, Mother passed away, Gwen Turner, husband fell and Marilyn Burrows, husband Jim passed away.
OHA, DISTRICT 4 & OTHER MEETINGS
District 4 Awards Celebration
June 11th in Peterborough. Mary Jane & Rose attended. The theme for the day was Hawaiian and included lunch, a speaker on Orchids and a Silent auction.
OHA Convention
July 18 – 20 in Cornwall. Mary Jane & Rose will attend. There is an Art Competition.
District 4 Fall Seminar
October 25th in Lakefield
June Executive Meeting
Mary Jane reported on resolutions passed at the June executive meeting. A person must be present in order to win the door prize. Convention expenses will be covered to $200.00 each person. The district gives 25 year pins, therefore, our Society will give 20 year pins. Carrie’s flower bill was reduced by the amount used to purchase plants from Country Rose as Carrie’s was unable to supply our full order.

A copy of the Archivist’s report. Brantford is the oldest Horticultural society in Ontario, operating continuously for 162 years.
