GENERAL MEETING

MASTER GARDNER: Lou Loree gave a powerpoint presentation on Identifying Edible Mushrooms
GUEST SPEAKER: Lorraine Turcotte of Minden Florist Shop demonstrated how to make attractive fall decorations from materials you can find in your garden or fields.
CALL TO ORDER: The Chair called the meeting to order at 7:45 pm and welcomed all. She explained that tonight due to a slowly boiling coffee pot we would proceed with the meeting followed by the refreshments.

FINANCIAL REPORT: Karen reported that our current bank balance as of August 31, our year end, is $2469.25 plus the GIC.

COMMITTEE REPORTS & EVENTS
COMMUNITY GARDENS –Karen Shirley reported that she reminded the township to water the flowers and asked all of the members to continue to caretake all our plantings in town.
EXCURSIONS – Susan Sheehan reported that the slide show of the Members’ Garden Tour will be shown next month.
FLOWER SHOW – Margaret Giles read out the Flower Show Final Report which is attached. She thanked exhibiters and helpers. Entries were up, paid attendance was 159 and a profit of $117 was made. A new format will be followed for the highest point first time entrant – next year’s membership will be complimentary and a present will be given.
The judge advised us that potted plants must be judged in a plain pot and may be put into an attractive pot for display later. Margaret will confirm this for us.
Members who want to order garlic bulbs for planting from Jim Jones (speaker last month) should give their order to Margaret tonight.
All items left at the flower show & unclaimed will be in the library until next meeting.
MEMBERSHIP – Nancy reported that our membership is now at 126 including the juniors.
YOUTH PROGRAM – Rose Paliwoda reported that we received $150 from D4 for the Youth Group and she has spend $60 of this so far. Laurie Carmount of the Cultural Centre now feels that no fence is needed around the 3 Sisters’ Garden and that the sign we collaborated with them to have made is stalled at County Sign.
SUNFLOWER CONTEST – Rose Paliwoda requested anyone who has an entry for the tallest or largest head sunflower to contact her by the end of the week for her to finish judging.
T-SHIRTS & CARDS & PINS – Elinor Kernohan was absent but sent information that the clothing ordered has been made and she will contact everyone regarding delivery upon its arrival and will bring any members’ orders she failed to connect with to the October meeting.
OHA, DISTRICT & OTHER MEETINGS
District 4 Fall Seminar – is October 24 in Campbellford.
CORRESPONDENCE
Hortus TV sent an email announcing that they now have a TV channel that you can subscribe to which will have no advertising and many hours of gardening programs.
OTHER BUSINESS
Nominating Committee – Anica Sabel and Liz Lilley-Case will be telephoning all members to solicit nominations for all executive & new director positions.
Karen Shirley will take the October General Meeting Minutes due to the absence of Co-Secretaries.
Door Prizes – Anica Sabel won the door prize and Linda Kemp won the fall table decoration generously donated by Lorraine Turcotte. (She is a holding workshop at her Florist Shop to make this in early October.)
