MINDEN & DISTRICT HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
TUESDAY NOVEMBER 3rd 2015

CALL TO ORDER: The Chair called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm and introduced District 4 Assistant Director Pam Chellew.

LOCATION: Minden Community Centre
CHAIR: President, Mary Jane Irwin and Melanie Hevesi
ATTENDANCE: There were 34 in attendance.

“That the minutes of the November 4,2014 Annual General Meeting be adopted as circulated.”

FINANCIAL REPORT: Moved by Karen Shirley Seconded by Margaret Giles
“That the Treasurer’s Annual Report & Reviewers’ Certificate be accepted as circulated and placed in the Society’s records.” CARRIED

COMMITTEE ANNUAL REPORTS

COMMUNITY GARDENS -Karen Shirley’s report is attached.

EXCURSIONS – Susan Sheehan’s reports are attached.

FLOWER SHOW – Margaret Giles’ report is attached.

LIBRARY & BULLETIN BOARD -Izabel Janca was absent.

MEMBERSHIP – On behalf of Nancy Garbutt who was absent Mary Jane reported that at our year end as of August 31, 2015, we had 94 members, 2 life members, and 29 junior members.

PLANT SALE – Rose Paliwoda’s report is attached.

T-SHIRTS & CARDS & PINS – Elinor Kernohan reported thatZ7 cards were sent this past year. Pins are still available and a1l clothing sold has been delivered.

VILLAGE GREEN – Liz Case tJranked 13 volunteers who worked about 3-4 hours per week for 16 weeks. The new perennials are filling in and their colours are showing well. Pruning has been done. There is opportunity for more persons to assist next year.

YOUTH PROGRAM – Rose Paliwoda’s report is attached.

ELECTIONS

Pam Chellew presented the nominations as presented by the nominating committee of Liz Case & Anica Sabel and asked for further nominations from the floor. The slate was filled and all positions were acclaimed.

OTHER BUSINESS

District 4 Fall Seminar -_Mary Jane Irwin reported that she, along with Nick & Liz Case, Vicki Judge, and Rose Paliwoda attended on October 24n.The guest speaker from Richters spoke on Herbs for Food, Medicine and Good Looks. The handout is available on the side table. Members are urged to visit the O.H.A. website wrvr,l’.sardenontario.org where they can read the Trillium newsmagazine.

Volunteer Hours – Linda Kemp received the volunteer hour reports from many members tonight but those that forgot should telephone her or email her at lindafkemp@yahoo.ca

Presidents’ Awards – Mary Jane & Melanie presented Julia Donnelly with the Presidents’ Award Certificate for many years of arriving first and leaving last to have the coffee ready and the lunch table arranged and cleaned away.

FINAL EXECUTIVE MEETING OF 2015 – Both new and old executive will meet at the OPP Community Room at 7:30 p.m. on November 17.

NEXT MEETING – Pot Luck Luncheon on Saturday, February 6,2016 at noon at Minden United Church. There will be a speaker on “Tea”.

Door Prize – An Amaryllis was won by Melanie Hevesi.

REFRESHMENT BREAK -A 15 minute refreshment break was held. Members were reminded to donate ifthey did not provide any food.

GUEST SPEAKER: Lorraine Turcott demonstrated how to make a Christmas table or mantle runner. She has 2 Christmas decoration workshops coming to her business soon and is selling wreaths for $25 to support immigration of 2 Syrian boys to Peterborough.
